A migraine headache is a pulsating headache that is often one sided normally lasting from 4 to 72 hours and associated with nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to light, sound, and smells, sleep disruption, and depression.Research says that women get affected three times more often then me.this headache is experienced between the age of 15-55yrs.80% of the sufferers have the family history for migraine.
HOME TREATMENTS:
- Massaging the forehead with primrose oil is beneficial in curing migraine. It works as an excellent anti-inflammatory agent, preventing any kind of constriction in the blood vessels.
- Garlic plays a very effective role in migraine either chew a piece of garlic in the raw form or mix it with other food items.
- Another effective method would be to have chamomile tea which is very useful in reducing the occurrence of migraine.
- Taking lukewarm water enema also works in migraines. It cleanses the bowels, and thereby removing all the toxins from the body.
- A mixture of carrot juice, either with spinach, beet or cucumber juice, helps a lot in curing migraine. Combine 300 ml of carrot juice with 200 ml of any other juice and drink it.
- Dihydroergotamine (DHE) may be used for self-injection. DHE is also available as the nasal spray Migranal.
- A combination product containing isometheptene (Midrin®) is not usually effective for migraine.
- Sumatriptan (Imitrex®), a 5-HT agonist, is available in self-injectable, nasal spray and rapidly-dissolving tablet forms.
- Other 5-HT agonists are almotriptan (Axert®), naratriptan (Amerge®, rizatriptan (Maxalt®), zolmitriptan (Zomig®), frovatriptan (Frova®) and eletriptan (Relpax®). All are available in tablet form. Both rizatriptan and zolmitriptan are available in an orally disintegrating tablet (Maxalt-MLT and Zomig-ZMT), which can be taken without water. Zomig also comes in a nasal spray.
